Rule hits soccer teams hard

With soccer season beginning on Thursday, the boys ranks may feature a few more new faces this year than previous years would.
That is because this year is the first season in which soccer club academies are enforcing a rule they instituted that forbid their team members from playing for their local high-school teams. That means that aside from losing seniors, this year soccer coaches will be losing many of their best returning players as well.
"I don't know, because to me, it doesn't make much sense at all, personally," Southlake Carroll coach Greg Oglesby said. "I think the kids really enjoy playing for high school and high school programs, I think there are good coaches, good facilities, good officiating, and it's a great experience playing with their friends and playing in front of their peers, so I really can't answer why they aren't allowing kids to play in high school."
While some teams, like Grapevine, were unaffected, they still hear horror stories of other high schools losing entire lineups.
