This season, junior Josh Moser will fight for playing time in the senior-dominated receiver position. It’s OK, though, because fighting for position is what Moser does best.
“I’m not afraid of anything,” Moser said. “And I will do anything to come down with the ball.”
It is this attitude that has propelled Moser onto varsity and possibly into the starting lineup this season. In fact, Moser’s mentality is so important that he values it above his speed or strength.
“The strongest part of my game is probably my drive to win,” he said.
However, Moser is not relying completely on his attitude. He has also put in a lot of work over the offseason to prepare himself for his first full season on varsity. Like many of his fellow players, Moser participated in both Performance Course and 7-on-7 tournaments and has worked to improve his game from last season.
“I am preparing myself by getting stronger and working on my speed,” Moser said. “Since last season, I have gotten faster and improved my sense for the game.”
Along with his attitude and his work ethic, Moser also attributes his improvement to the experience he gained on JV last season.
“Last year went pretty well for me,” Moser said. “Playing with JV for a good part of the year really helped me out because I got more playing time than I would have if I were on varsity.”
Moser said he hopes all of these factors will combine for a successful season for both him and the team.
“My favorite part about football is winning,” Moser said. “Especially with a program like we have here at Carroll.”
Moser’s aspirations extend even farther than this season, though. He also hopes to play college football too.
“My hopes are to receive a D1 scholarship to play football in college,” he said.
However, Moser is not letting his future goals get in the way of what he believes to be the most important thing right now: this season.
“The most important thing,” he said, “is winning that state championship.”
