As he enters his first full year on varsity, senior receiver Cameron Stone hopes to build on the experience he got last year when he practiced with varsity.

“Last season I did pretty well on JV,” Stone said. “I double dipped (practiced with both varsity and JV), so I got a good experience out of it.”

However, Stone does not rely on his experience to get him through this season, and has been working over the summer to hone his skills and make a rebound from a hamstring injury he suffered last year.

“I’ve put on weight and I’ve been working out a lot, and I’m recovering from a hamstring pull,” he said.

So far, his work has paid off, though he plans to work even more before the season starts. Stone says he has bulked up this season, but is still working on his catching ability. Although Stone says his catching is the best part of his game, he plans to improve even more before the season starts.

“I’ve put on about 20-25 pounds, mostly muscle and I’ve grown a bit taller as well,” he said. “I’ve been working to get my hands stronger too.”

The main driving force behind Stone’s improvements this offseason is his attitude towards the game. Stone says he is a dedicated player, which translates to his play both on the field and in practice.

“I believe that I’m a very hard worker, and a guy that knows how to get the job done,” he said.

It is also this attitude that often gets Stone through the grueling and frequent workouts.

“I’m not really a fan of all the conditioning we do,” he said, “but it has to be done.”
Though the conditioning is difficult, Stone says that it is often the toughest times that he likes the most. Stone says he enjoys coming together as a team to get through a rough moment.

“My favorite parts are the difficult times, and working hard in those moments with my teammates,” he said. “I like the teamwork, and everybody working together.”

Stone hopes to make it through the tough times of this season and make an impact on the team. Ultimately, Stone, like many of his teammates, hopes to become an integral part of a deep playoff run for the Dragons.

“I really hope to play a role in the season and hopefully start some games,” he said. “As a team we all obviously hope to play strong through the playoffs and win state.”
