Carroll's defense set the tone, as Dragons quarterback David Piland sparked the attack with 350 of total offense. Piland was 22-of-39 for 270 yards and two touchdowns through the air, running for 80 yards and another score.
Carroll running back Tommy Avers scored his team's first two touchdowns, running the first one in from eight yards out and catching a pass for a 21-yard run to the endzone to build a 13-0 lead with 4:36 remaining in the first quarter.
The Dragons defense allowed Arlington (1-1) a total of 415 yards, but only 150 in the first half. The Colts didn't get on the board until 11:10 remaining in the game to cut Carroll's lead to 26-7.

Carroll 49, Plano West 20
Out of the gates in a hurry, the Carroll football team built a 42-14 halftime lead and cruised to a 49-20 victory over Plano West in the Dragons' opener Aug. 29.
Surprisingly, Carroll found itself in a back-and-forth game early at SMU's Ford Stadium, as the Dragons traded scores with the Wolves and were knotted at 14 apiece with four seconds remaining in the first quarter. But a 98-yard kickoff return by Tommy Avers as the quarter ended began what would be an avalanche of offense for Carroll in the first half.
Avers served as the biggest spark for the Dragons, rushing for 132 yards on 10 carries, including a 73-yard touchdown run in the second quarter. That score gave Carroll a 35-14 lead with 4:10 left in the half after quarterback David Piland completed a 37-yard touchdown pass to Ryan Gentry in the first 1:17 of the second quarter.
Piland completed 12 of 16 attempts for 155 yards and two touchdowns in the contest, including the game-opening score to Brett Renger with 9:08 remaining in the first. Carroll quarterback Kyle Williamson split time with the starter, completing 5-of-8 passes for 43 yards and two touchdowns.
Carroll rolled up 531 total yards, 337 coming through the air. The Dragons defense gave up 420 total yards, but only 77 yards rushing, and didn't allow a score in what was a pivotal second quarter. The Dragons next face Arlington High at 7:30 p.m. Friday at UTA's Maverick Stadium.
