Athletes Ink Their College Choices

By Zach Warner
The Southlake Journal

It's time to sign on the dotted line.

For athletes locally and across the nation, Wednesday is the day in which commitments become official. High school stars of football, as well as a few other sports like soccer, track, and cross country, make their final choices as to where they'll play collegiate sports on National Signing Day.

Typical in recent years, Carroll football once again has one of the largest recruiting classes in the area. A total of 13 Dragons were expected to sign scholarships on Feb. 3, eight of which are Division I signings.

“This shows that their hard work and commitment is being rewarded,” Carroll football coach Hal Wasson said. “The best thing is that each of these guys have great character and integrity to go along with their talent.

“We all think they can [succeed at the college level],” he said. “They've crossed the main bar of getting the opportunity; now it's just a matter of making the most of it.”

Carroll was not alone in sending football athletes on to college ball. Keller Central saw five recruits pen scholarships, Colleyville Heritage had four, Keller had three, Fossil Ridge and Northwest had two each, and Grapevine had one at last count early Wednesday.
