Robert Resma
Robert Resma; My parents are Rhodora and Ramon Resma.
I started swimming all the way back before elementary school. Taking lessons at Emler’s Swim School was probably one of the scariest experiences in my life, but now I’m eternally grateful.
Swimming has taught me pain tolerance, dedication, and perseverance. It wasn’t easy waking up early at 5:45 in the morning everyday; however, as a Senior going through single block afternoon practices every other day, I still find myself waking up in the morning to go swim with my Varsity buds on the days when I don’t have swimming as a class. That’s not an everyday occurrence you would find with a high school student fervently dedicated to his studies.
All the memories of swimming with Southlake Carroll are memorable. There have been ups and downs, but all in all, the friendships I made and the hardships I endured are what matters. If I had something in particular I enjoyed, it would be playing gutterball with the team: something I haven’t done in a very long time!
All of Coach Murphy’s stories are hilarious. I love the quote: “hurt, pain, agony” because it sets the standard of the quality of workout I strive to schieve. On Mondays in particular, I always feel agony…
After graduation, I will hopefully be accepted to at least most of the schools I have applied to. At the moment, I have no preference in university, but my top choices are Rice, Stanford, UT, Baylor, and Washington University in St. Louis. After college, I plan on going to medical school and specializing in Oncology. Swimming will stay with me for life, and I doubt I will ever stop swimming for exercise.
